// PnF 3000: Wrap Party
Time for Wrap Party – a new double dose of fresh electronics from Pete & Frank 3000. Born out of the desire for a straight-up simple session with the newly-acquired Roland TR8 drum machine, the crew met at Pete’s house to throw down some rap beats and see what happened.
Things quickly went sideways when it was realized we didn’t have a working mic for Pete. One strange trip later trying to fix it from the Shack, Besties and Wally-world, we gave up and decided to headphone mic it like the early Pete and Frank days. When even that didn’t work, we got out Pete’s Paper Jamz Mic and figured out we could actually line it in. Frustrating at the time, but it gave things their own style and edge, and during that trip to Wally-world we saw a hilarious kid’s mic called “Wrap Party” and a concept was born. Frank’s Novation Mini-Nova was finally MIDI-ed to the brand new TR8 and we blasted off.
‘Wrap Party 1: 808’s + Spaceships‘ explores some extended jams, with several songs continuing into two different sections, and the spaceships theme emerging. The Lonely Island-style ‘Hipster Crap’ and ‘Dad Jeans’ are particular highlights, along with the intensity of indie-epics ‘We Are Energy’ and ‘Journey 1701’.
‘Wrap Party 2: 909’s + Synthblips‘ continues on even deeper, exploring stranger territory from sci-fi rawness to old-school indie hip-hop to sexy jams, carnival tunes and synthy instrumentals. Check out ‘Systems Are Nominal’ and ‘Rollin’ Down In My Minivan’.
From the new drum machine, to the mic adventures and space themes, to the Interstellar-themed covers from the only photo taken, the night ended up inspiring over 2 hours worth of new dirty bumping grooves. Recorded live, in order. Explore.
