// aphasein + Xrei: End of Rebuild Mewzich Journey
Happy 9/09! Today sees the end for Rebuild of aphasein with the release of ‘Abiogenesis1.1‘, the originally-intended first album, now left raw and un-mastered to showcase the full dynamics and textures of the tracks.
The album has never sounded as crisply intense as it did straight from the Amiga600 in the tiny walk-in closet in was recorded in, sound reverberating off the close walls at full volume late at night and resonating with brilliant micro-textures, but this rebuild of the album goes a long ways toward recapturing it (especially for opener ‘Crack Whore Drone’ which always suffered). It was recently re-output from the original tracker files on the Amiga600 and left in its original perfect running order, along with its album art converted into a high-quality PDF.
To compliment what is essentially a straight remaster, we also have ‘XREI_EVIX‘, a companion single that’s all about companionship. The two new tracks were recorded together live in one take last November, and are the only new material from aphasein in many years. A fitting wrap-up from the two creators for this project.
Not to be outdone, we also have the next two interstellar EP’s from Xrei, completing the ‘Mewzich’ and ‘Journeys’ set of trilogies. On ‘Mewzich 3‘ we dive into the cosmic soup at increasing speed, starlight dripping from the hull in shimmering iridescence, as the clockwork rhythms shift gears and skitter of the spheres. The layers deepen and new forms rise before us, revealing hitherto unknown complexity. Or at least it feels that way. ‘Journeys 3‘ presents us with an easier exploration and more languid pace, coasting through the bright warm sun and playing in its cold shadows.
These releases have brought us to an appropriately elevated destination, and completed a thrilling and circuitous voyage through worlds familiar and wildly unknown. It’s 2 years to the day since we started up Phase 3 of our ongoing adventure, and though it seems a great time for a hiatus now, who knows where we will end up next.
Until then: Enjoy.
